Application for FANUC Robots

FANUC Robotics manufactures industrial robots that can be used in robotic assembly and welding automation applications. FANUC also manufactures some of the best robotic pallets in the world.

FANUC welding robots like the Arcmate 120ic available with or without welding supplies include the Lincoln Powerwave i400 and 455M. Automated pick and place applications can be realized by integrating the robot clamp into the FANUC M20ia.

R2000ib models capable of automating material handling applications are often in stock. With so many different types of robots available, there is a robot for every type of robotic application.

Unlike many conventional services and support services, we understand every customer’s needs are different. We also understand that FANUC Service and Support needs to be adaptive and flexible to meet your specific needs. That’s why we offer our customers a variety of support services to help get the most out of their FANUC products.

REDUCING SYSTEM COST

Robots are only part of a robotic system. Parts or materials need to be fed, so the robot can do some manipulation with them. That requires conveyors or pallet systems, aligning and presenting each part in a known exact location. Then, once the parts have been assembled or processed, they must be moved out of the cell.

FANUC’s iRVision products, tightly integrated with their robot, eliminate the need to use these multiple fixtures. Using line tracking to find parts on a moving conveyor and 2-D or 3-D vision for part placement eliminates the need for part-specific pallets and fixtures. This reduces initial system costs, but also reduces maintenance needs (no pallets or fixtures to clean and repair), and makes new product introductions easier and faster.

Force sensing is another technology that FANUC uses to reduce its reliance on fixing components. Particularly valuable in assembly and disassembly tasks, measuring the force experienced by the end effector allows the robot to adapt to changes in part position or orientation.

One area where cost reduction is just beginning to work is cell protection. Typically, robot cells require large cages to keep workers out of the robot’s working range.

However, “cooperative robots” use sensors combined with “force and force limiting technology” to allow humans into the work area. This promises even easier robot integration by eliminating guards and cages.

IMPLEMENTATION INCREASE

Offline programming means that the robot’s movements can be simulated while the system or cell is still being built. That reduces the time between order and delivery, and gets the system up and running and monetization faster.

Offline programming with FANUC’s ROBOGUIDE package not only saves build time. Simulation provides the opportunity to evaluate cell layout and optimize cycle times. Often, this highlights opportunities to reduce costs, improve system capacity, or both.

RELIABILITY

The FANUC robot is reliable and has impressive MTBF statistics, but two innovations are helping to further improve the cell’s performance:  If an unplanned event occurs (possibly a part slips out of the set). clamp), causes can be analyzed, understood and corrective action taken.

Zero DownTime (ZDT)  is a new initiative to collect process data to help predict problems. For example, bearing or solenoid bearing wear can be detected and parts replaced before they fail – preventing unplanned downtime.
